Carer Training

At Hamilton George, we pride ourselves on only working with the best carers, offering them unparalleled training and support from our Registered In-House Nurse. We understand that outstanding care is about more than just clinical excellence. Our clients and their families deserve care tailored to them, from experienced, capable and compassionate carers.

We therefore created our CPD accredited and CQC mandated Hamilton George Carer School, offering unique online training modules that cover both the clinical and lifestyle elements of care, as well as specialist topics. From ‘moving and handling’ and ‘medication management’, to ‘etiquette 101’ and ‘working with other householdstaff’, this holistic training provides our handpicked carers with the tools and confidence to provide a life-enhancing service.

What do you think makes a good carer?
"A carer should be naturally empathetic and able to put others' needs first. Having so much one-on-one time means that you have to be a willing and active listener. I love learning more about people and delving deeper, but it's important not to bombard them with questions and have the emotional intelligence to know when to step back. Having a sense of humour also helps! "

How do you connect with your clients?
"I have a brilliant relationship with my current client and always show interest and enthusiasm towards her interests. For example she loves classical music and it wasn't something I knew anything about but now have an appreciation for. Family is usually very important to my clients and I always make it an occasion when I know someone is coming over - usually by cooking something special. "

What’s been a career highlight so far?
"The people themselves are highlights for me - I’ve looked after clients with incredible and interesting lives, just to know them is an honour. Every day to see a little bit of change and growth. When my client goes out to enjoy the garden, is able to speak with a friend, sees their Christmas tree, this in turn brings me joy. "
