Quality care starts with exceptional carers. At Hamilton George, we understand the vital role carers play in providing support and ensure that clinical excellence underpins every element of our care. We know that a rigorous, supportive and comprehensive training program, along with the ongoing support of our outstanding in-house nurse, will equip our carers with the range of skills they need.

This clinical training sits alongside the unique lifestyle modules created for us exclusively by Debrett’s. However, we also understand that there are other elements at play such as empathy, emotional intelligence, a genuine desire to care and simply being ‘the right fit’.

Once we have a deeper understanding of their personality, lifestyle and goals, we can then focus on finding the carer and building a care plan that suits the exact needs of our clients.

Recruiting our care team

All carers must have a minimum of one year’s healthcare experience, ensuring they bring a strong foundation to our training.

We receive a mix of applications from those in both care home settings and private homes, as well as those with hospital or nursing backgrounds. Every experience brings its own value and this wide spectrum of lifestyles, backgrounds and training ensures that we have a carer to suit any need.

Unlike many larger agencies, our boutique set up ensures that we can be highly selective about those we interview and also ensures we have the ability to support them on their care journey.

A supported training journey

At Hamilton George care we take a highly hands-on, proactive approach to training every new carer. Along with our flexible training modules, our process includes in-depth carer briefings, structured onboarding, and personalised introductions to new clients—a step ahead of standard industry practices.

From day one, we aim to inspire confidence in both our carers and clients. A dedicated operations team supports our carers during their training, answering queries, providing guidance, and offering 24/7 assistance when needed.

Due to the nature of live-in care, our care team resides across the UK as well as further afield in countries such as South Africa and New Zealand. We encourage and assist face to face interviews, meetings and training whenever possible and highly value these in-person connections.

Clinical training modules

All our carers complete comprehensive mandatory training modules that go far beyond typical requirements (11 mandatory training modules) required by the governing body The Care Quality Commission (CQC). This ensures that every Hamilton George carer possesses an extensive breadth and depth of knowledge, contributing to the quality of care they provide. These modules cover core skills such as:

  • Health and safety awareness
  • Fire safety
  • Moving and handling objects
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Adult safeguarding
  • Assisting and moving people
  • Basic life support
  • Child safeguarding
  • Learning disability and autism awareness
  • Food hygiene
  • Medication administration

In addition to the traditionally mandatory training, we also ask our carers to complete an additional 27 modules in skills including:

  • Dementia Level 1
  • Catheter Care
  • Conflict resolution
  • Dignity in care: home care
  • End of life care
  • Stroke awareness

Ongoing upskilling

At Hamilton George, we believe excellence is in the details. Beyond the required clinical skills, we go the extra mile in developing carers’ abilities to deliver care that is thoughtful, respectful, and professional.

The Care Certificate is a set of standards that define the knowledge, skills, and behaviours expected of people who work in the healthcare and social care sectors in England, and many of the modules that make up this certificate are included in our own training. Whilst not mandatory for a career as a carer, obtaining this certificate is highly recommended and the majority of our carers have this formal recognition of their skills or are working towards obtaining it with our support.

Annual refresher sessions are a key part of how we maintain clinical standards. These allow all carers to remain up to date with the constantly evolving CQC (Care Quality Commission) healthcare guidelines. This guarantees that all care delivered meets (and exceeds) modern standards of competency, compassion, and professionalism.

Tailored support for specialist needs

Every client is unique, and we ensure carers are prepared to meet any specialist requirements. We carefully match our carers to our clients needs, initially on experience and skills, whilst also ensuring a thorough understanding of the lifestyle and personality fit.

Our carers are experts in a wide variety of specialist conditions and will receive tailored training to enhance and update their skills. These include a mix of both common and rare conditions, for example;

  • Dementia
  • Alzheimers
  • Parkinsons
  • Cancer
  • Strokes
  • Arthritis
  • Neuropathy
  • Ulcers
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Heart Conditions

If a client develops a condition during their time with us, but their original and much loved carer hasn't had this training, this will be arranged where possible with the support of our in-house nurse.

A fully supported workforce

We take pride in not only supporting our clients but our carers as well. We understand that caregiving is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires consistent emotional and operational assistance. With the support of our in-house nurse we are able to provide this at the highest levels.

To ensure this, we’ve developed a dedicated check-in schedule for carers on placement. Starting with daily calls, our check-ins will decrease as the carer settles into their role and will be scheduled as regularly as they would like or is necessary. We ensure these regular touchpoints with our team address any concerns, help to improve performance and ensure a smooth experience for both the carer and the client.

Our care team receives £250 for any referrals to us, compensation for any UK travel and 24/7 assistance from our operations team. We also enjoy providing more personal touches such as birthday cards and seasonal gifts for those on placement, as well as rewards for outstanding work.

Why our approach is different

While many agencies focus solely on placing carers on assignments, we’re invested in building long-term relationships between us, our carers and our clients. That’s why we prioritise not only training but also community and connection. Our in-person carer introductions and care briefings ensure smoother client transitions and personalised care.

At Hamilton George, we understand who our clients are as well as the service they expect and deserve, and are excited that our partnership with Debrett’s enhances our ability to provide this. Not content with just meeting the industry standard, we continuously strive to deliver the highest standards of both clinical and lifestyle care. Through comprehensive training, ongoing support, and genuine care for both our carers and clients, we’re dedicated to providing outstanding high-end care.
